The Color Run™ 5K event, also known as “the happiest 5K on the planet,” is coming to Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma Zoological Society (OZS/ZooFriends) has been chosen as the official charity of the run, which will be held on Saturday, April 11.
The Oklahoma City Color Run will take place in the Adventure District, with participants starting and ending at Remington Park. Start times begin at 9 a.m.
The Color Run is an elaborate and energized paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality. It has more than tripled its growth, hosting more than 300 events in 50+ countries in 2014.
The start-line window will open at 9 a.m. with waves going every few minutes until 9:45 a.m. The start line is its own pre-race party with music, dancing, warmup stretching and giveaways.
Tickets for individual runners cost $45. Team runner pricing is $39.50 per person. To sign up for the run, click here. http://thecolorrun.com/oklahoma-city/
Included in the registration fee is a t-shirt, tattoo, and headband distributed at check in. Runners will receive a Medal, SHINE powder pack, and Color Pack when they cross the finish line. Be sure to wear the race bib on race day.
Race packets will be available for pick up at the check in party, on Friday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Kolh’s, 7401 SE 29th Street, in Midwest City. For those who are unable to make it on Friday, packets can be picked on Saturday (race day) at Remington Park from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
Participants running with their children are encouraged to pick up a wristband for their child at the check-in party.
Participants will be able to make a donation to ZooFriends when they register to volunteer or run. To learn more about The Color Run, visit www.thecolorrun.com.
To pick up a race packet bring a printed or digital copy of your ticket with the bar code. This ticket is attached to the confirmation email you received when you registered.
If you need a second email, please contact [email protected] with “Oklahoma City Confirmation Email” in the subject line. Runners can also pick up packets for their friends and teammates provided they have a copy of their bar code.
ZooFriends is the 501 (c)3 non-profit organization created to support and promote the Oklahoma City Zoo and its programs in education, conservation, zoological research and recreation.
Volunteers, 16 and older, are needed to help with event preparation, set up and clean up. Volunteer shifts go from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on race day. Individuals and groups are welcome. All volunteers will receive the exclusive Color Run t-shirt.
Volunteer shifts are available in three areas. 1) General Race Morning: arrive two hours before the race to help with set up. 2) Race Morning Color Zone: work in one of the four on-course color zones. And 3) the Post Race Clean Up: this shift helps with clean up after the event.
As the official charity, ZooFriends will receive a donation from The Color Run for each person who registers to volunteer.
To register as a charity partner volunteer call 405-425-0298 or click here.
After registration, Candice Rennels, OKC Zoo’s manager of marketing/PR, will contact volunteers with details about their role in The Color Run.
Whether it’s handing out water, assisting with check-in, revving up the crowd at the finish festival, tossing color or cleaning up confetti, Color Run volunteers are a vital part of the event. Position requests will be taken on a first-come first-served basis on race morning.
