Oklahoma City — As part of CityRep’s 15th Anniversary celebration, Oklahoma’s award winning professional theatre is bringing back the side-splitting comedy, “A Tuna Christmas,” the biggest hit and the most requested show in its history.
CityRep Artistic Director Donald Jordan and CityRep co-founder Jonathan Beck Reed are back in this Tony award nominated sequel to “Greater Tuna,” where it is Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. These two dazzling comic actors play all the denizens of a small town in this laugh a minute, quick change, comic tour de force.
Directing the show is longtime CityRep Affiliated Artist Steve Emerson.
The production will be presented in the Freede Little Theatre at The Civic Center Music Hall located at 201 N Walker Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
Concerning the “Tuna” plays, Jordan has previously reflected they are “considered a comedy elsewhere, but in Texas and Oklahoma we all understand that it’s really more like a documentary.”
Reed loves the “Tuna” plays, among other reasons, for the audience: “Each time we perform it, there are always a large number of people who tell me they never, ever go to the theater, except for the ‘Tuna’ plays.” Then, after a recent performance, Reed recalls, “Tuna” co-author Jaston Williams told him, “I am amazed at how relevant it is, and how much fun, after all these years.” Each of the “Tuna, Texas” tales achieves an uproarious, sometimes ribald, and ultimately affectionate send-up of life in small town Texas, or maybe that’s western Texihoma.
Remember: “A Tuna Christmas” is rated PG-13 due to adult situations and language. The performance schedule is:
