CityRep and OCU School of Theatre will present the Oklahoma premiere of the five-time Broadway Tony Award winning hit, “Peter and the Starcatcher.” This magical play, deemed “an adult prequel to “Peter Pan,” is a fast-paced, funny, sweetly charming story filled with laughter and enchantment. Performances run from September 18 to 27.
Rick Elice wrote the play. Wayne Barker composed the music. The pair was inspired by the novel of Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson.
According to leaders of the Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (CityRep), “This magical play takes you on a journey using the power of music and story-telling to chronicle the adventures of an orphan soon to be called Peter Pan, and Molly, a girl charged to protect a parcel of stardust from falling into the wrong hands.
“Imagine a creaking frigate with an orphan boy in its hold, a disguised pirate ship following in the distance and a trunk carrying stardust – the kind that could let a child float into the air or freeze him in time.”
The production includes both professional actors and young performers training at OCU.
Perfomers include Jonathan Beck Reed as Black Stache, Hal Kolman as Lord Aster,
Marcellus Hankins as Robert Falcon Scott, Matthew Alvin Brown as Smee, Lance Marsh as Alf, Olivia Cinquepalmi as Molly and Jordan Jacobs as Peter.
The story promises to awaken the child in all of us. It is described as “an adult prequel” and is rated PG.
From September 18-27 the production will run at Burg Theatre, 2501 N. Blackwelder, on the east side of the Oklahoma City University campus. Evening performances will be at 8 p.m., with some Matinee shows at 2 p.m.
