In this week’s Capitol Report on News9, the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City, Patrick B. McGuigan presented the August 23 runoff election endorsements for The City Sentinel newspaper of which he is publisher.
In Republican runoff races for party nomination, endorsements went to Carolynn Caudill for Oklahoma County Clerk, Linda Amick Dodson for Oklahoma County Court Clerk, and Matt Jackson in House District 85. On the Democratic side, runoff endorsements went to Tom Guild in Congressional District 5, and to Jason Lowe in House District 97. [Endorsements will be revisited in the general election process.]
McGuigan said that “even if you disagree with me,” voting is like a muscle “and it needs to exercised.” Wrapping up with News9 reporter Alex Cameron, the CapitolBeatOK editor recalled the words of the late writer Aleksandr Solzyenitsyn, who defended freedom of conscience and religion by reflecting, “Man is separated from the animals by thought and speech. And these, by rights, must be free.”
