In the latest Capitol Report segment on News9, the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City, journalist Pat McGuigan reported on recommendations from David Blatt of the Oklahoma Policy Institute concerning the state budget crunch of 2016.
Blatt and his colleagues want to increase some taxes and roll back the latest one-quarter of a percent state income tax reduction. Further, Blatt advocated – in an Oklahoma City speech – ending or changing a controversial range of tax credits and business incentives.
Sketching key points of OK Policy’s proposals, the CapitolBeatOK editor agreed with the credits/incentives reforms (at least in part) while disagreeing with the tax cut rollback idea. McGuigan commended Blatt for his research.
Wrapping up his weekly discussion with reporter Alex Cameron, McGuigan praised the newest members of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame for their stellar careers.
