News9 Alex Cameron and CapitolBeakOK editor Pat McGuigan
On the latest Capitol Report segment, Pat McGuigan detailed a Blue Room press conference at which a remarkable coalition announced a major push for prison reform.
Former Speaker of the House Kris Steele led a group that included leaders of the American Civil Liberties Union, the ‘right on crime’ group, Oklahoma Policy Institute, Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs and diverse faith communities. They are pushing a pair of ballot initiatives to fight prison overcrowding, and back legislative proposals backed by state Reps. Pam Peterson, R-Tulsa, and George Young, D-Oklahoma City.
McGuigan surveyed the scores of events held to mark School Choice Week in Oklahoma. He told News9’s Alex Cameron state Sen. Clark Jolley of Edmond and Rep. Jason Nelson of Oklahoma City have introduced measures to build on the Sooner State’s school choice options.
