On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble presents its final regular season concert of the season, a whirlwind of Winds, in “Quintets, Sextets & Queen,” at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The Winds of the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present Anton Reicha’s Wind Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 88, No. 2 (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn), Leoš Janáček’s Mládi (“Youth’) for Wind Sextet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon and horn), and Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet for Piano and Wind Quintet (piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn).
The evening will end with a delightful blend of classical and rock in Carl Rath’s arrangement of classic tunes from the iconic British rock band, Queen, in “Queen Fantasy” for Wind Quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn).
Footnotes: Anton Reicha (1770-1836) was a life-long friend of Beethoven, and Ludwig Thuille (1861-1907) was an Austrian composer who was a life-long friend of Richard Strauss. Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) was considered one of the most important Czech composers.
