Downtown in December 2018 is hosting a series of holiday events and attractions, which are now in full swing in the heart of Oklahoma City. The winter events include outdoor ice skating, a tree lighting festival, afternoon visits with Santa Claus, free water taxi excursions, performing arts, shopping, and more.
Most of the festive holiday events are free of charge and open to the public.
Downtown in December is produced in part by Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. with support from Devon Energy, the Downtown Business Improvement District, as well as other corporate sponsors and partners.
Returning for its 8th season at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, the Devon Ice Rink is open 7 days a week through January 29. The rink hosts daily public skating, private parties, and special events all winter. Tickets are $13 per person for all ages (includes skates). $8 for guests who bring their own skates. On December 8, Devon Energy Center, 333 W. Sheridan Ave., will feature Saturdays with Santa. Activities themed “The North Pole” and “Winter Wonderland” will feature crafts and other holiday activities for children from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit saturdayswithsanta.com.
Saturday, December 8, the 2018 SandRidge Santa Run will include a 5K race and a one-mile Fun Run. All runs begin and end at SandRidge Energy, 123 Robert S. Kerr Avenue. The 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. followed by the 5k Race, which starts at 9:30 a.m. In-person registration opens Dec. 8 at 7:30 a.m. at SandRidge Energy.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each 5K age group. Cash prizes awarded to the top three overall finishers.
All registered 5K and 1-mile runners can participate in the costume contest following the races. The 1st place costume contest winner will receive $150, 2nd place will receive $100, and 3rd place will receive $50 cash.
Registration for the 5k is $35, the Fun Run is $20. Packets can be picked up beginning at 7:30 a.m. on race day, December 8, at 123 Robert S. Kerr Ave. For more information and to register, click here.
Courtesy of the Downtown Business Improvement District, free holiday Water Taxi Rides down the Bricktown canal will be available for all ages Thursdays through Sundays through December 31, from 6 – 9 p.m. (closed on Christmas Day). The narrated Taxi Rides will begin at the main Water Taxi dock on canal level, below the entrance to Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse. Each round trip is estimated to take 20-30 minutes. The public is invited to the OKC Streetcar Ribbon Cutting on Friday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. The event, at Leadership Square, 211 N. Robinson, will kick off the inaugural ride of the OKC Streetcar. For details visit okcstreetcar.com.
Forty-five Oklahoma-owned Holiday Pop Up Shops and an urban Christmas tree lot will be available from now through Christmas in Midtown. Shops rotate weekly through a set of geodesic domes at NW 10th and Hudson, next to Bleu Garten (399 NW 10th St.). The holiday shopping village is open each weekend, starting Black Friday, Thursday through Sunday to the public. Entry is free, shopping is encouraged. Entry is free.
