Downtown in December 2016 is hosting a series of holiday events and attractions, which are now in full swing in the heart of Oklahoma City. The winter events include outdoor ice skating, a tree lighting festival, afternoon visits with Santa Claus, a holiday run, snow tubing, free water taxi excursions, performing arts, shopping, and more.
Most of the festive holiday events are free of charge and open to the pubic.
Downtown in December is produced in part by Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. with support from Devon Energy, the Downtown Business Improvement District, as well as other corporate sponsors and partners.
The Devon Ice Rink returns for its 6th season in the Myriad Botanical Gardens and is open 7 days a week through January 29. Tickets are $7 for members, $12 for non members (includes skates) or $8 for those who bring their own skates. For details, call 405-708-6499.
A pet-friendly Dog Day in December holiday party will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Midtown Mutts Dog Park (407 W. Park Pl.). Dogs will take photos with Santa and enjoy complimentary Milk Bones and Cookies. The first 100 dogs to arrive in costume will receive a free goodie bag. All dogs who come in costume will be entered to win a gift certificate to an OKC Midtown District business. The Spy FM will provide music and The Curbside Chronicle will be selling wrapping paper designed by local artists as a part of their Wrap Up Homelessness program.
On December 3, 10 and 17, Devon Energy Center, 333 W. Sheridan Ave., will feature Saturdays with Santa. Activities themed “The North Pole” and “Winter Wonderland” will feature crafts and other holiday activities for children from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit saturdayswithsanta.com.
Saturday, December 10, the 2016 SandRidge Santa Run will include a 5K race, a one-mile Fun Run, and a free Kids’ Dash. All runs begin and end at SandRidge Energy, 123 Robert S. Kerr Avenue. Kids’ Dash will dash off at 8:45 a.m. The 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. followed by the 5k Race, which starts at 9:30 a.m.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age bracket for the 5k.
All registered 5k and 1-mile runners can participate in a costume contest following the races at 10:30 a.m. The 1st place costume contest winner will receive $150, 2nd place will receive $100, and 3rd place will receive $50 cash.
Registration for the 5k is $35, the Fun Run is $20 and the Kids’ Dash is free for ages 8 and under (registration not required). For more information and to register, click here.
Courtesy of the Downtown Business Improvement District, free holiday Water Taxi Rides down the Bricktown canal will be available for all ages Thursdays through Sundays through December 31, from 6 – 9 p.m. (closed on Christmas Day). Call 405-234-TAXI for more information.
The LifeShare WinterFest and Snow Tubing event at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark features a gigantic snow tubing slope, Santa’s Workshop, and a children’s train all in a festive holiday atmosphere. Santa Clause will be at the Ballpark on Saturdays and Sundays through December 24. Single-session tickets are $14 for all snow tubing riders. Thirty-five Oklahoma-owned Holiday Pop Up Shops and an urban Christmas tree lot will be available from now through Christmas in Midtown. Shops rotate weekly in a set of geodesic domes at NW 10th and Hudson, next to the Bleu Garten food truck park. The holiday shopping village is open each weekend, Thursday through Sunday to the public. Entry is free.
The Merry Carousel in the Myriad Gardens located at the North Plaza on the Great Lawn will feature rides for $2. All proceeds benefit the Myriad Gardens.
Other holiday festivities include Lyric’s a Christmas Carol, OKC Ballet’s The Nutcracker, and OKC Philharmonic’s Christmas Show.
