On Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, the 3rd annual Oklahoma City Pet Expo will be held at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. The event will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Centennial Building. 3001 General Pershing Blvd.
All well-behaved, fixed leashed pets are welcome. Admission and parking are free.
The 2-day long event is Oklahoma City pet lover’s source for pet treats, supplies, merchandise, information and services for their furry, feathered or reptilian family members.
People who are considering getting a pet are also welcome. The expo will host a Petfinder.com Mega-Adoption event where more than 250 rescue pets will be available for adoption.
The expo will include over 100 exhibitors featuring pet-related businesses and organizations, as well as and family friendly entertainment and activities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to take advantage of low cost immunizations and microchipping courtesy of The Bella Foundation of Oklahoma City.
“2014 was the first time the Pet Expo came to Oklahoma City, so it was the first time The Bella Foundation SPCA participated,” said Eric McCune, Board Chair of The Bella Foundation. “We were amazed in a very good way at the number of pet owners who attended.
“There are so many great resources for pet owners at the Pet Expo and anyone who owns a pet should come out and see what is there. Just like last year, The Bella Foundation SPCA will be providing low cost vaccines, heartworm testing, and micro chipping to anyone who wants to make sure their pet is protected from disease.
“At last year’s expo our organization provided preventative care to over 400 pet parents and it was fantastic,” McCune added.” We hope to see even more pets this year getting the care they need!”
There will also be local veterinarians, groomers and trainers on site. Free nail trims will be provided by Unleashed Pet Grooming.
The event will feature numerous prize giveaways for both two legged and four legged guests, book signings, a fly ball demonstration, a talent contest and a musical chairs competition.
Participants can show off their furry family members during the Pet Costume Contest. Each pet must wear a costume during the competition period to be eligible. To enter, pets and owners should report to the agility court at 4:45 p.m.
Expo activities will also include an agility competition sponsored by State Farm. Dogs and handlers will demonstrate agility basics such as jumping through tires, negotiating a teeter, and driving through weave poles.
The OKC Pet Expo is organized by Amazing Pet Expos, whose mission is to educate pet lovers about the pet-related resources available in their communities
“Over one million people have walked through the doors of an Amazing Pet Expo in 6 years,” says Ethan Barnett, Vice President of Community Partnerships, “With so many people walking through our shows, we’ve been able to continue educating the public on progressive training techniques, pet safety, animal legislation, and veterinary facts.
“We’ve also continued to provide low-cost vaccinations for pet parents and had a major mega-adoption area at each of our events,” Barnett added. “Our shows have reached over 35 major pet communities around the country and continue to make a difference in human and animal lives everywhere.”
This year, producers of Amazing Pet Expos are offering free 5×10 Booths to all verified non-profit rescues at each of their events.
