The official public grand opening of the IFLY Oklahoma City indoor skydiving venue will take place on Saturday, April 30. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 13600 Pawnee Drive, in the new Chisholm Creek development in north Oklahoma City.
“From the initial work with city planners, to final building inspections and definitely to the over 5,000 flyers who have experienced the dream of flight in our tunnel, we just want to say thank you,” iFLY Sales Manager Evan Comer said.
IFly first opened on Valentine’s Day weekend. This special grand opening, daylong event will give IFLY the opportunity to thank Oklahomans and Chisholm Creek visitors for two months of safe and successful flight experiences
“Gathering first-time and experienced flyers and spectators and fans of the sport is in keeping with our daily operations and on this particular day we hope to see many new faces, as well,” Comer added.
iFLY is a safe, fun, family-friendly experience for anyone ages 3 and older. The indoor skydiving venue creates true free fall conditions, just like skydiving, without having to jump out of an airplane. The vertical wind tunnel generates a wall-to-wall cushion of air, on which guests float safely.
The website states, ”There’s no parachute, no jumping – it’s just you and the air.”
Festivities will include hourly drawings, guest flyers, and food trucks between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. In addition, KYIS 98.9 FM will be broadcasting live on-location from 1 to 3 p.m.
Throughout the day, iFLY will intermittently test the drag and effect of gravity on various objects in the tunnel, similar to the experiments showcased on-site during STEM field trips.
iFLY OKC has a team of 25 full time employees. The highly trained instructors and staff fly hundreds of guests each week, and the tunnel also hosts a Tuesday night Kids Club and Wednesday evening Flight Club (adult league).
There is no admission charge and potential flyers are encouraged to visit the venue’s main floor to watch others flying before signing up themselves.
“iFLY OKC offers an exciting activity for individuals, families, birthday celebrations, corporate events, group outings, and even STEM Education Field Trips for students,” Comer continued. “Our location provides easy access for those in Oklahoma City and all around Oklahoma.”
iFLY Oklahoma City is the newest of the iFLY operations in the USA. The facility features a 12-foot diameter wind tunnel powered by two quiet and clean running electric motors. Started in 1998, iFLY has 37 locations around the world in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia.
There are few limitations on people of all ages who want to experience IFLY, although customers with shoulder, back or neck injuries should consult their doctor before attempting to fly.
There is a standard weight limit of 250 pounds for most flyers, but depending on height and body type that number may be exceeded.
iFLY OKC will have an on-location Education Coordinator to manage and facilitate curriculum in conjunction with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programming and fieldtrips. All instructors at iFLY Oklahoma City are International Bodyflight Association (IBA) certified in the sport of indoor skydiving.
Reservations for flight times should be made in advance online or calling 405-300-iFLY (4359).
