Oklahoma City’s Myriad Gardens will offer a variety of family fun events this month. Activities will feature orchids, chocolate, Valentines, wine and craft events – something for everyone.
From February 14 though March 19, the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory will feature “Deceptive Orchids: Survival of the Trickiest.” The exhibit is free with general admission: $8 adults, $7 seniors, students & military. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. -5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Guided Orchid show tours with conservatory specialist Nate Tschaenn will be held each Thursday at 2 p.m., during the run of the exhibition. Tours are free with admission to Crystal Bridge.
On Saturday, February 13 from 4:30 – 6 p.m., a Wine & Chocolate Pairing Class will be held in the Terrace Room hosted by Joshua Yates, Manager of Broadway Wine Merchants. The event will feature small group activities, salty palate cleansers, social media activities, and a sparkling wine. Members costs $55 and nonmembers are $65. Register by February 9. Ages 21 & over only.
Presented by Ticker Federal Credit Union, on February 13, from 6 – 8 p.m., visitors ages 21 and over can meet at the South Lobby to enjoy champagne and live music while touring the Crystal Bridge before opening day of the exhibit.
Member’s ticket price is $15 per person or $25 for 2 people. Nonmembers cost $20 per person or $30 for 2. Ticket price includes one glass of champagne and light appetizers. Register by February 9.
Each Tuesday inside the Crystal Bridge from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., join Yoga in the Gardens, an all-levels class led by Lisa Woodward. Participants should bring a yoga mat and water. Members are free, nonmembers cost $10. Ages 16 and older only.
Kids ages 2 – 5 will enjoy story time each Wednesday at 10 a.m. during the free Bringing Books to Life event held in the South Lobby. Children can create a small craft after the nature themed story. Groups of 10 or more can call Lily Christman at 405-445-5162.
The Seed Starter Workshop, held on Saturday February 6, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. in the Terrace Room, will show participants how to start annual flowers, vegetables and herbs. Taught by Myriad Gardens executive director Maureen Heffernan, participants will create containers of a variety of plants to take home. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Register by February 2.
A Hot Chocolate Adventure will feature Katiebug’s Shave Ice and Hot Chocolate in the Terrace Room with host Katie Morgan on Saturday, February 13. Members cost $10 and nonmembers cost $12. Registration is due by February 9.
On the last Saturday of each month, be part of the free Myriad Gardens Walking Tour program. The tours, “Plants for Color” or “Plants for Water Conservation,” feature plants from each season. Participants should meet in the South Lobby at 10 a.m.
On Saturday, February 27, the last Fairytale Takeover of the Crystal Bridge will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants will read the fairytale of the week and tour the conservatory searching for treasure. Hosted by Youth & School Program’s Coordinator Lily Christman, visitors will get a special prize if they complete each adventure and bring their worksheets. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for nonmembers. Kids ages 5 – 9 should register by February 23.
That same day, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Cold Frames Class can help gardeners to extend the growing season through these mini-greenhouses. Host Christina Reid, OSU Extension Horticulture Educator, will teach participants the steps of building their own cold frame to take home. This event, held in the Terrace Room, costs $60 for members and $70 for nonmembers. Register by February 23
