Will Rogers World Impact operations “significantly impacted” by storm

Staff Report

OKLAHOMA CITY, December 28, 7:30 a.m. – Operations at Will Rogers World Airport are significantly impacted this morning with 27 cancellations (23 departures and four arrivals) and several delays, airport officials said in a press release sent to The City Sentinel and other news organizations.

Most of the cancellations can be attributed to flights not arriving last night and to the current icing conditions. There are a few flights still scheduled, but these flights will most likely experience some delay.

Airport maintenance crews have been working through the night clearing runways and taxiways to keep the airport open. Additional airport and parking staff are working to clear sidewalks and roads in front of the terminal, as well as parking lanes.

Operations are expected to improve later this morning and early afternoon as the storm system moves out. It will take most of the day for flights to try and get back on schedule. Even with improving conditions in OKC, travelers should be aware that as the storm moves east, other cities such as Chicago, may be impacted and could impact flights at the Oklahoma City airport.

Currently, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines are waiving change fees to allow customers the opportunity to change their flights if they are scheduled to fly today.

The airport urges anyone traveling to Will Rogers World Airport on Monday to check their flight status prior to coming to the airport. Check flight status at or check the airline’s website or social media sites.
