All you cowboys and cowgirls best be headin’ to the Wild West Puggerfest on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s western themed shindig will be held at Stars & Stripes Park at Lake Hefner, 7398 N. Portland), in Oklahoma City
The 12th Annual Puggerfest is a fundraising event benefitting Homeward Bound Pug Rescue & Adoption of Oklahoma. This little hoedown is open to the public. Adult admission is $5. Kids under five and all pugs are admitted free.
“Our mission is to place pugs that have been surrendered, abandoned or abused into loving, caring forever homes,” said founder and executive director Gail Tucker.” We are an all volunteer, not for profit organization dedicated to pugs, which we frequently rescue from kill shelters. We have placed over 2500 pugs since Homeward Bound opened.”
Puggerfest contest events will include Best Costume, Best Themed Costume (any theme will do), Best Trick, Best Group Costume, Best Kisser, and Curliest Tail.
As always there will be large silent auction of pug and non-pug items, which will offer the “buy it now” feature. By paying the buy it now price, you can purchase an item right away. A fast paced live auction will take place around 12:30 p.m. featuring items such as comfy and cute dog beds, artwork, hotel stays, show tickets, and more.
New this year will be a blessing of the pets by Father Stewart Crevcoure from St. John University Parish in Stillwater at approximately 12:30 just before the live auction. And you won’t want to miss the special guest appearance by Big Bad Bart.
“We have also added some really fun stuff at the fun zone,” Tucker said. “Young and old alike will enjoy the toilet paper toss and kids will have fun spinning the prize wheel and playing pin the tail on the pug.”
Schellye Bryant, a caricature artist and illustrator from Dallas, will be doing caricatures for only $15, of all the little doggies that want to take home a memento. Part of the proceeds will go to Homeward Bound.
Tasty grub will be available for purchase, featuring a variety of chuck wagons. The Watering Hole will offer snacks, water, Gatorade and soft drinks
Animal communicator Naomi McDonald will be available from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to let you know what your pug is really thinking. Fifteen-minute sessions for $25 can be booked through Shelli Krenciki at [email protected] There are still time slots available so book now and don’t be left out.
The Wild West raffle drawing will feature an iPad Air, a Samsung 50” LED TV, a Dell Inspiron Laptop, a Mini Ipad and a Kindle Fire HDX. You need not be present to win.
Raffle tickets cost $5 each or 6 for $25 and can be purchased at the event or in advance by check or money order made out to Homeward Bound Pug Rescue, 1702 Vanessa Drive, Norman, OK 73071.
The grand finale will be the 5th annual coronation of the King and Queen of the Puggerosa. Purchase King and Queen contest entry tickets during the event.
A drawing at 3 p.m. will result in each winner receiving a gift basket with a retail value of over $300 along with a trophy. Entry tickets will be $1 or 6 for $5 and you can enter as often as you like. The coronation of the royal winners is a sight to behold!
The 2015 Puggerfest T-shirts and Hoodies will be available for purchase at the event.

“Rustle up your friends and family for the Wild West Puggerfest and bring chairs, cameras, lots of $$$ and of course, your pugs for a heap of fun,” Tucker added.
