Wild West Puggerfest rides into town on October 4

This year’s Wild West Puggerfest will ride into Oklahoma City on Saturday, Oct. 4. All you little pugaroos best be headin’ to the Pugerosa from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for this year’s western themed shindig at Lake Hefner’s Stars & Stripes Park, 7398 N. Portland.

The 11th Annual Puggerfest is a fun fundraising event benefitting Homeward Bound Pug Rescue & Adoption of Oklahoma. This hoedown is open to the public. Adult admission is $8, kids 6-12 are $5, and kids ages five and under and all pugs are admitted free.

“Our mission is to place pugs that have been surrendered, abandoned or abused, into loving, caring, forever homes,” said founder and executive director Gail Tucker. “We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to pugs, which we frequently rescue from kill shelters. We have placed over 2000 pugs since Homeward Bound opened.”

Puggerfest contest events will include Best Costume, Best Themed Costume, Best Trick, Best Group, Best Kisser, and Curliest Tail.

This year there will be two silent auctions: a morning auction from 10 a.m. – noon and an afternoon auction from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Winning bidders for the morning auction will need to pay for and pick up their item at noon in order to set up for the afternoon event.

A fast paced live auction will take place at 12:30 p.m. featuring items such as: gift baskets; handmade, one-of-a-kind, wooden dog beds; artwork; hotel stays; show tickets and more.

The Pugerosa Jail will hold critters that get rounded up. Owners will have to pay a fine to get their sidekicks out of the hoosegow.

Chuck wagons (food trucks) will offer tasty grub that is fit to purchase. The Watering Hole will be selling snacks, water, Gatorade and soft drinks.

Animal communicator Naomi McDonald will be available from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. to let you know what you pug is really thinking. Fifteen-minute sessions for $25 can be booked through Gail Tucker at 405-706-1492.

McDonald said, “I take great joy in helping humans and their pets connect and understand each other on a deeper level.”

Puggerfest’s annual raffle drawing will feature an iPad Air, a Samsung 50” LED TV, an Acer Laptop, and a Kindle Fire HDX. You need not be present to win.

Raffle tickets cost $5 each or six for $25 and can be purchased at the event or in advance by check or money order made out to, Homeward Bound Pug Rescue, 1702 Vanessa Dr., Norman, OK 73071.

The grand finale will be the 5th annual coronation of the King and Queen of the Puggerosa. A drawing at 3 p.m. will result in each winner receiving a gift basket with a retail value of over $300 along with a trophy. Entry tickets will be $1 or six for $5 with no entry limit.

2014 Puggerfest t-shirts and hoodies will be available for purchase at the event.

Puggerfest will be held in a corral where pugs and everyone can rodeo safely. All dogs attending must be fully vaccinated, leashed and over four months old. No females in heat are allowed.

A pug sitting service will be available for a $5 donation per family so little doggy owners can get along and shop.

On Friday night, prior to Puggerfest, Homeward Bound Pug Rescue’s posse will meet for dinner at Zio’s on Meridian.
