Local non-profit service organization Other Options, Inc., along with Oklahoma City area restaurants and clubs will host an evening of creative concoctions during the 2013 Bar Wars. The event will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 7 to 11pm at the IAO Gallery, 706 W Sheridan, on Historic Film Row, organizers said.
The benefit features 16 local bartenders competing to win the honor of creating the event’s “Best Signature Cocktail”.
The 16 bartenders will be representing some of Oklahoma City’s favorite watering holes, which include 809 Sports Grill, Deep Fork Grill, Doll House, Iguana Grill, In the Raw, Jazmo’z Bourbon Street Café, Major’s Bar, Picasso on Paseo, Rococo Restaurant & Fine Wine, Sipango Lounge, Social OKC, Tamazul Mexican Restaurant, The Boom, VZD’s, Whiskey Chicks, and WSKY Lounge.
“We are very excited to be part of this event,” said Mary Arbuckle, executive director of Other Options. “The last Bar Wars was a complete success, and raised significant money to help with the HIV/AIDS problem in Africa.”
“Funds raised this year will assist Oklahomans who are affected by AIDS, including the patients, their families and care-givers,” Arbuckle added.
Everyone attending the event will have the opportunity to try the signature cocktails and vote for the winner.
For those who wish to combine their spirits with cuisine, local restaurants will be on hand to provide delicious sustenance.
Oklahoma City establishments including 809 Sports Grill, In the Raw, Jazmo’z Bourbon Street Café, Deep Fork Grill, Bill Kamp’s Meat Market, Iguana Grill, Nomad, Picasso on Paseo, Rococo, Tamazul, The Boom, VZD’s, and WSKY Lounge will offer the evening’s fare.
“Guests will have a chance to taste many drinks some with a special flair, while they have the unique opportunity to build on the passion of our organization and all that it stands for,” Arbuckle said. “It should be a night to remember.”
The evening’s musical entertainment will be provided by DJ J2O, and “Flair” performances will be given by the competing bartenders.
“Our first Bar Wars was geared at pleasing the taste buds of those in attendance,” said David Rackley, event co-chair and Other Options board member. “Bar Wars II will have something in store for all the senses.”

A silent auction will feature original artwork, gift packages from local salons and spas, event tickets, and gourmet foods and wines.
One hundred percent of the proceeds raised at Bar Wars 2013 will support Other Options programs, including the Other Options Food Pantry, its Home Food Delivery Program; HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People Living with AIDS); and the Humanitarian Medication Program, which provides over a billion dollars of donated HIV/AIDS medications to 15 countries.
Other Options’ mission statement is focused on non-discriminating, compassionate care to those in need. It provides food, resources, services, and education to at-risk individuals and families with a special focus on those affected by HIV and AIDS.
The Food Pantry at Other Options is the only free food source in the 405 and 580 area codes for the HIV population in Oklahoma.
This event will kick off the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Other Options, which has been providing much-needed services to clients since 1989.
VIP tickets costs $75, which includes unlimited cocktails, free coffee bar, food, entertainment, and VIP Lounge access. $25 general admission tickets include food, entertainment, and one complimentary drink coupon. The $10 designated driver tickets Include food, entertainment, and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.
