Heather Meldrum, a fifth grade teacher at Stanley F. Hupfeld Academy at Western Village, reacts in surprise after being named the 2013-14 Oklahoma City Public School Teacher of the Year. Meldrum is the first charter school teacher ever to win the honor. Other finalists for the honor were Michael Spellis (Taft Middle, first runner-up), Sherry Dew (Webster Middle), Susan Bumgarner (Wilson), Suzanne Carter (Telstar), Adelita Dixon-Hernandez (Capitol Hill High), Mary Johnson (Rancho Village), Lisa Ummel-Ingram (Wheeler) and Kristin Whitmore (Sequoyah).
