The 13th annual OKC Turkey Trot, previously held on Thanksgiving morning, has moved to Friday, Nov. 23 so participants can walk/run off their Thanksgiving meal. The new location is downtown at the newly renovated Myriad Gardens. Additionally, and new this year, after the running events, there will be a family fun day on the great lawn of the Myriad Gardens. There will be face painting, inflatable bounce houses, sack races, and all sorts of games. The Myriad Gardens will also give discounts to Turkey Trot participants for the Botanical Gardens and the ice rink.
New this year will be participation of the Special Olympians in the 200 yard run and a family fun day in the park.
Bruce Holmes, chair of this year’s event, believes this new venue will become a wonderful tradition in our community and encourages young and old to participate.
The proceeds of this year’s Turkey Trot will go to the Eagle Ridge Institute’s family strengthening programs, such as the residential substance abuse treatment center for women with their children, the therapeutic foster care program and the Special Olympics of Oklahoma Capitol Area that continues to inspire, uplift and support those with intellectual disabilities to become useful and productive citizens, gaining respect and acceptance from family, friends, and their community.
