OKLAHOMA CITY — The grass fire has crossed Britton Rd. between Prosper Dr. and Midwest Blvd. At least two homes have been destroyed in a large grass fire that started near 63rd St. and Sooner Rd. and moved Northeast just after 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

At least 7,000 are without power in the area affected by the fire.

Crews have expanded the evacuation area from Air Depot to Post Rd. between 63rd St. and Britton Rd.

Children at Oakdale Elementary are being kept in the building.

Smoke is blowing over the school but the children are not in danger.

Any students from other schools on busses who were to be dropped off in the area around the fire are now being taken to Pleasant Hill Elementary at NE 36th & Coltrane.

The National Guard is on scene with a Chinook helicopter, dropping water on the flames.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Pleasant Hill Elementary for those affected by the fire and are asking for volunteers.

EMSA is helping fire crews stay hydrated and safe.
