Campus Upgrade is Beginning of School Pride Project:
(Oklahoma City, OK) Students at F. D. Moon Academy returned from winter break to a colorful surprise. A small group of teachers from the elementary school spent part of their winter break painting all the student’s lockers.
“This was really a lot of fun, now the hallways are bright, kid friendly and welcoming,” said Marionette Gibson, principal of FD Moon Academy. “We want our students to be proud of their school and to increase school pride not just for our students but also our parents, teachers, staff and the community.”
The idea derived from a conversation with the school’s PTA President and other staff members at a recent Family Literacy Night. Veteran teacher, Janet Kirksey asked what could be done to spruce up the building; after a little brainstorming the group decided to start with the student’s lockers.
“We had an idea, now we just needed to the funds to buy the paint and supplies; thankfully staff members and community groups stepped up and helped us raise $550.00,” said Kirksey.
“We just felt that the kids needed a change for the New Year; the hallways are so much brighter and made for elementary students as a result of the dedication and hard work of all who participated,” said teacher Anjanette Wallace.
The staff plans to continue to spruce up the building throughout the year; including adding a statement to the walls.
The statement will remind everyone that F.D. Moon Academy is focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary and success for all students.
The school would like to thank the following people and organizations for their donation to the School Pride project at F. D. Moon Academy: F.D. Moon PTA, Benjanmin Swagerty, Karen.
