Two midtown Oklahoma City elementary schools will host MAPS for Kids school design meetings at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9 and 6 p.m. March 11 at their respective schools.

They include Sequoyah, Hawthorne and Cleveland elementary schools. Organizers invite parents, teachers, students, neighbors, community members and school administrators to come and share their ideas for the schools’ upcoming renovations.

Sequoyah Elementary, 2400 NW 36 St., will have its schematic design review meeting in the school’s auditorium that evening.

The school, established in 1930, will receive over $3.4 million in improvements from MAPS for Kids funds. It will be designed to accommodate 494 pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students.

The Sequoyah meeting is being coordinated by Glover Smith Bode, Inc and the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Public Schools (OCMAPS) trust project office.

Cleveland Elementary, 2725 NW 23 St., will host its schematic design review in its school auditorium at the same time, the same evening.

Established in 1928, Cleveland will receive over $2.3 million in improvements. The completed school will be able to accommodate 416 pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students.

The Cleveland meeting is being coordinated by Hornbeek-Blatt Architects and the OCMAPS trust project office.

Hawthorne Elementary School, 2300 NW 15 St., will host its preliminary school design meetings at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 11. It will also be held in the schools auditorium.

The school, which was established in 1911, will receive over $4.1 million in facility improvements from MAPS for Kids funds. The school will be designed to accommodate 520 pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students.

Funding for the nearly $700 million MAPS for Kids program comes from two voter-approved sources: a seven-year penny sales tax which ended on Dec. 31, 2008 and an Oklahoma City Public Schools bond issue. Once completed, every student in the Oklahoma City Public Schools district will attend a new or fully renovated school.

Those needing a sign language interpreter, language interpreter or disability assistance can call 297-2578 at least 48 hours before the meeting.

The meeting is being coordinated by Mass Architects, Inc.and the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Public Schools (OCMAPS) Trust Project Office. For more information, contact the OCMAPS Trust Project Office at 297-3461 or visit www.okc.gov.
