“A place where you can be who God created you to be and friendships become family” is the loving motto of the Expressions Community Fellowship. The congregation recently moved to the Midtown area at 4010 N. Youngs Blvd. Thc church -- born April 6, 2008, and shaped from a year-long Bible study called “Expressions of Hope” -- has begun holding services at the new location.

“I feel that it is a gift from our creator to be in this location,” said Neil Spurgin, Senior Pastor at Expressions Community Fellowship. “For us to show unconditional love to our congregation comes from the whole congregation, not just the ministers.” Spurgin has been a minister for more than ten years and involved in ministry in teaching and outreach long before that.

The primary mission of Expressions is to be a church where all people, no matter individual expressions, can join on the journey toward God, together in community, giving them a greater purpose in life; with the ultimate goal of reaching people with the good news that Jesus loves them. The worship experiences are designed to reach the unchurched and minister to believers through contemporary music and Biblical messages that are relevant for our community.

“It appears that this church is poised to really take off; there is extreme excitement and amazing support around the fellowship and our new location,” said Tom Nix, Expressions Director of Music. “We are off to a great start with some dedicated people.” Nix hopes to develop a full choir, and feels the talent he sees among the fellowship is tremendous.

Expressions Community Fellowship is a non-denominational gay-affirming church. They believe that God exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came as Savior of the world and that Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. Further beliefs are of the Christian faith and are detailed on their website.

“I never believed that God would allow me as a gay pastor to reach out to people in this area,” adds Spurgin. “Even if you are gay, you can still have a relationship with your creator. I pray that if we don’t do anything else as a church, we will be able to show the gay community that there is this way of life.” Spurgin also said he never thought he would get a location in the heart of the community after just 18 months. “Our location is like a safe-haven.”

Worship experiences for Expressions Community Fellowship are Sundays 11 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. at 4010 N. Youngs Blvd in Oklahoma City. For more information, please call (405) 761-1878 or visit their website at www.expressionsokc.com.
